I’ve been speedrunning games from my old “do later” list, and now I reached Gylt. The game has a great atmosphere — the focus is more on the story, its twists, and the visuals rather than pure horror. Unfortunately, you don’t really get to experience any of that during a speedrun 🙂
But yes — it’s a horror game, and you can speedrun it! Most of the run is about dealing with enemies. Some of them can be manipulated and avoided, others act randomly and make everything harder. When there are many enemies in tight spaces and you have no room to move — it becomes chaos. Luckily, there are only a couple of really tough sections. The boss fights are simple, and the tricks are easy to learn.
In the end, I got the time I wanted — 54:46 (RTA). The tricks were easy to pick up, and I like how the environment is used in some spots. Too bad there aren’t more places for this — most of the run is just running forward.
